Moycullen native Oisín Mod is set to release a full-length, debut LP. Honeycomb arrives on August 19 with ten tracks of warm and delicate alt-rock, aided by its producer Bill Ryder-Jones – former guitarist for The Coral. It is a minimalist album. Oisin’s voice sits, wispy and full of melody, on top of gentle, guitar-based tracks that forge a dreamy and textured atmosphere.
The singer-songwriter has drawn comparisons with Elliott Smith for his vocal performance and for the melancholia that seeps into his work.
Prior to the album’s release, Oisin plays Galway’s An Taibhdhearc on August 12. It represents a first outing for much of the new record and for the five-piece with whom he’s been rehearsing.
It has been a year since Oisin travelled to the Wirral and recorded his project over ten days in Bill’s Yawn Studios. Now the songs are coming to life in another sense, as he goes about preparing his Galway date and a subsequent first appearance in London.
“It’s been a lot easier than I thought it would be,” Oisin says of arranging the songs for live shows.
“There are only three guys playing on the record – myself, Bill and a gentleman called Phil Murphy who played drums on it. I’d never heard the songs played back to me, as they are on the album, before we started rehearsing them. I was pleased with how they sounded.
