Rower McCrohan pulls off a sporting fairytale in Belgrade

IT’S the comeback to beat all comebacks. A fairytale to beat all fairytales.

Seven years out of competitive rowing and in your first season back, you end up a world champion!

That’s the phenomenal feat of 36-year-old Galway rower Siobhán McCrohan at the World Championships in Belgrade last Saturday.

A member of Tribesmen Rowing Club, the Claregalway native made light of her long hiatus from international rowing by brilliantly powering to victory in the lightweight single sculls final.

McCrohan’s outstanding achievement sees her join an elite group of Galway sportspeople who have been crowned world champions.
