Emboldened by the energy and identity of the music scene in Galway, and in particular the incendiary punk acts that have blossomed in recent years, multi-instrumentalist Alan Casey has embarked on a new music project for the first time in several years. A seasoned performer, previously of alternative four-piece Vulture Casino, Casey is now heading Numbskull Narrative, whose debut single is released this week.
Maintenance is out this Friday and deals with themes of mindfulness and creativity as a means of protecting your mental health.
As it stands, Numbskull Narrative are operating as a two-piece with Casey enlisting the help of producer and guitarist Francis Glynn. Maintenance was one of the first songs that revealed itself when the former decided to sit down and write again.
“It was my first time putting a pen to paper and creating punk rock songs in a very long time,” Casey explains.
“I began writing the songs and putting them all together early September time and it all happened really quickly. Currently, I’m playing drums, bass guitar and singing vocals.
“My buddy Francis [Glynn] – I had initially recruited him for his production skills because they’re fantastic and he’s a very patient person to record with. He’s a fantastic guitar player as well and has a great knowledge of music theory. He liked how it sounded and he wanted to get involved as well so he started putting guitar to it to polish it off.”
