With the biggest prize fund ever up for grabs for best turned-out woman at this year’s Galway Races we asked this year’s judges to pick out their favourite winners over the years.
Head judge Mandy Maher’s standout was Lisa McGowan in 2016.
“The reason this stands out for me is it ticks all the boxes being classy, elegant, the quality of the dress and it’s super chic.
“The simplicity of the head piece is perfect for her face shape and yet giving the oversize of the hat also compliments her dress, bag & shoes along with her impeccable grooming to complete the full look.
“Other winners I liked were Helen Queally Murphy and Carol Kennelly, who was heavily pregnant the year she won. She’ s a super stylist.”
Fellow judge Kieran O’Malley remembers being very impressed with Charlene Byers from Newry, County Down in 2018.
“I bumped into her before the result was announced and thought she had a great chance. Her hat was by Laura Hanlon, dress by Umit Kutluk Designs, Clutch by Lulu and heels from Next.
