More than 200 Scouts descended on the sylvian surrounds of the Brothers of Charity complex at Kilcornan in Clarinbridge over the weekend for an Open Day to remember.
They were gathered too for the Galway Scout County Camp, an annual event for those Scouts aged between twelve and fifteen, where they demonstrate their camping skills to try and earn their place at the national finals.
Bathed in sunshine, they went through their paces with aplomb, under the gaze of the more senior Venture Scouts – those ages from 15 to 17 – and adult scouters who were staffing the event.
“Scouting plays a crucial role in positively impacting the lives of young people across the country,” said Joe Mahony, County Commissioner for Galway Scout County.
“Galway Scout County is home to 22 groups, spread across the county of Galway, made up of 1,100 youth members and some 400 adult volunteers,” he added.
The Open Day offered visitors a guided tour of the campsite, showcasing the impressive structures and projects the Scouts had built, created, and pitched throughout the weekend.
“They were able to see the youth in action, and how scouting works to improve their independence and life skills,” said Joe.
