It’s the perfect fashion accessory for the discerning shoe-shuffler – a pair of specially commissioned rockin’ socks from the Saw Docs!
And the 500 fans who shell out for them at their upcoming Galway International Arts Festival gigs will also be doing their bit for a very good cause.
The Saw Doctors wanted to come up with a unique fundraising idea for the Galway Rape Crisis Centre – and so they have purchased 500 pairs of socks, specially designed by Irish Socksciety, based in Liosbán, depicting a Red Cortina, the N17 and other musical touchstones.
And they are donating all of the sales to the Rape Crisis Centre, which – with the socks retailing for €15 a pair – means a €7,500 boost to the charity’s coffers!
That’s made possible by the willingness of the Arts Festival to also show cause, because GIAF’s Artistic Director Paul Fahy has waived the festival’s sales commission on the socks from the merch stall at Fisheries Field.
The Saw Doctors’ socks will sell at the band’s two Big Top gigs at this year’s Galway International Arts Festival this Friday and, if there are any left, again on Saturday, July 29.
