Over the last couple of years, Efa O’Neill has been one of the most prominent and celebrated names in Irish electronic music. Known for her eclectic sets covering a wide range of genres and tempos, the Tralee native has coupled a huge catalogue of gigs in Ireland and abroad with Out of Space, a party and radio show on Dublin Digital Radio that regularly platforms emerging Irish artists.
This Saturday Efa is set to headline Áras na nGael as part of the latest instalment of Ar Ais Arís. Alongside her on the night will be DJ Egg and Cormac – a pair of artists that have each posted memorable performances in Galway over the last year.
Efa holds fond memories of playing the now-closed Electric Garden & Theatre on Abbeygate Street, a venue that provided the foundation for a plethora of Galway artists. As recently as last October, she collaborated with G-Town Records co-founder Cóilí Collins [Shampain] on a livestream for Berlin’s HÖR.
“Electric was definitely the spot that I have the most memories from,” Efa recalls.
“It was just an amazing venue, and the crowd there was so nice. I made so many friends DJing there that I’ve stayed friends with since, people from Galway.
“Cóilí asked me to do a back-to-back years ago – that’s how we got to know each other properly first. We did a back-to-back in Factory in there and it was great craic. I played in Áras na nGael years ago and it was a great night. It’s a small venue and I like the more intimate ones so it’s always good craic in there.”
