Cappataggle 4-26
Kilconieron 1-21
Eanna O’Reilly in Loughrea
CAPPATAGGLE made it two wins from two in the Senior A championship, recording an impressive 14-point win over an outclassed Kilconieron side in Loughrea on Sunday.
A seven point half-time lead put Michael Broderick’s side in a strong position, and they pulled away emphatically in the third quarter, with five consecutive points giving them an unassailable lead. Liam Collins’ 0-12 haul was highly impressive, but in truth, Broderick’s side were dominant in most positions throughout the contest.
After Shane Caulfield opened the scoring in opening minute, Kilconieron would have to wait 18 minutes for their next score. They were winning plenty of possession during this spell and created numerous scoring chances, but hit six wides in the first quarter alone, in what was a shooting nightmare for them.
During the same period, Cappataggle hit six consecutive points. Liam Collins pointed three frees and a neat score from play, while Dan Nevin and Declan Cronin tallied impressive scores from long range. Kilconieron finally got their second score when Conor Caulfield made a strong run through the Cappataggle defence, before firing a low shot which went under James Skehill for a goal.
