Covid-19 pandemic continues to destroy lives

Health, Beauty and Lifestyle with Denise McNamara

Sinead Kirrane has had to move from Dublin to her family in Claregalway after contracting Long Covid. An asthmatic, her symptoms have been truly terrifying: brain fog, fatigue, weak arms and legs, hair loss, tinnitus, vision changes.

“People call it brain fog, but it felt like brain damage. You could tell me I’d been physically hit over the head and I’d have believed you,” she reflects.

“Things got progressively worse and in July I was in hospital for 11 days as I’d reached a point that I couldn’t have a conversation, I couldn’t handle loud noises, there were some days I couldn’t cut my dinner to eat or even shower though I desperately wanted to. I haven’t been able to work since.”

Sinead, 32, works as a sales programme director for an American Tech Company and is currently on a leave of absence.

After multiple tests came back clear, she was eventually referred to Professor Jack Lambert in the Mater Hospital who diagnosed a severe B12 deficiency and has put her on medication. She is also on a waiting list for the Long Covid clinic in the Beacon Hospital and is currently trying sessions in the OxyGeneration hyperbaric chamber in Galway City.

Last March Fiona Keane tested positive for Covid-19 for 12 days and was beset with the most unbelievable fatigue.
