Arts Week with Judy Murphy
More than 40 events are taking place across County Galway this Friday, September 23, for Culture Night. These include drama, music, exhibitions, and community gatherings, from Kinvara to Inishbofin.
Athenry Heritage Centre will host Strings that Sing and The Showband Story, starting at 6.30pm, while The Life and Times of the Athenry Railway Hotel and Athenry Hotel School will be in Dan’s Bar from 8-9pm.
Eight, an exhibition of writing, paintings, wood turning, textiles, photography, ceramics, mixed media, and sculpture by the artists’ collective Group 8 will run at Ballinasloe Town Hall from 11am, with a launch at 7pm and all are welcome. It’s also open 11am-6pm Saturday.
There’s art in Ballinderreen Community Centre from 7.30-9pm when Róisín Curé will host a Sketching Workshop on Wildlife.
In nearby Clarinbridge, writers Rita Ann Higgins, Sarah Clancy and Elaine Feeney will give a reading in the SCCUL Sanctuary at 5pm. Wild Women Poets will be followed by a Q&A session.
