RTÉ Radio’s 1’s Arena is planning to broadcast three programmes from Galway next month to mark this year’s Arts Festival. One of these will be a special audience with Druid Theatre on Thursday, July 27, to celebrate the company’s O’Casey trilogy, which is being staged during the festival.
For this epic theatrical production, titled DruidO’Casey, the company will present The Plough and the Stars, The Shadow of a Gunman and Juno and the Paycock, three plays which cover the period from 1916 to the aftermath of the Civil War, in Dublin. After its Galway premiere, the Dublin Trilogy will travel to Dublin and Belfast before heading Stateside.
On July 27, at the Town Hall Theatre, Sean Rocks of Arena will be joined by the creative team behind the production. Director Garry Hynes and cast members , including Catherine Walsh, Marty Rea, Rory Nolan, Hilda Fay and Zara Devlin, will take part. Sean will chat to the cast, director and backroom team about the process of bringing DruidO’Casey to the stage, the importance of the work and the plays’ contemporary resonances.
This offers people an opportunity to whet their appetites to see the trilogy or to explore the themes and theatricality of these much-loved works.
The Arena/DruidO’Casey special from the Town Hall Theatre will take place from 3-4pm on Thursday, July 27.
Arena will also broadcast two shows during the first week of the Arts Festival, which runs from July 17-30.
