Ballinasloe composer Amie Doherty in Disneyland!

Ballinasloe composer Amie Doherty continues to smash the glass ceiling after scoring for the new Disney blockbuster, one of the only females to do so on a studio film this year.

Freakier Friday sees Jamie Lee Curtis and Lyndsay Lohan reprising their roles over 20 years after the previous comedy smash hit where mother and daughter switch bodies.

Amie, from Brackernagh outside the town, made history as the first female to score a DreamWorks Animated feature film in 2021, winning multiple awards for her work on Spirit Untamed, featuring the voices of Julianne Moore and Jake Gyllenhaal.

There are 29 songs on the soundtrack for Freakier Friday and it was Amie’s job to weave all the different musical genres together in the sequel directed by Nisha Ganatra, which has the grandchildren as well as the mother and daughter inhabit each other’s bodies.

She admitted she had to step out of her comfort zone to incorporate modern synth elements into the score, mixing them with traditional string sounds that were recorded at Warner Brothers with a 40-piece string section.
