From this week's Galway City Tribune
From this week’s Galway City Tribune – The recent poor weather has delayed the arrival of the Big Wheel for the opening of Curry’s Fun Park in Salthill this weekend, but all other amusements will be open.
“We are hoping the weather is going to change a bit. It has caused some trailers to be delayed at the port in the UK so there will be no Big Wheel probably until next weekend,” said owner Owen Curry.
Every few years the Big Wheel is sent to Holland to be reconditioned. Spokes are repaired and this year, the attraction is getting a new set of gondolas with galvanised frames. It will also benefit from a fresh lick of paint.
The layout of the fun park beside Leisureland has been slightly reconfigured to bring the Wave Swinger from Switzerland forward.
“It’s spectacular. A real family favourite so we’re moving that to the front. We also have a new Pink Date skills game with huge prizes which will be a popular draw.”
The Beast, which is a popular ride at their new outlet in Portrush, will not be coming West. Neither will the new Aqua Valley ride from Austria, which has thrill seekers sitting in logs racing through water.
“The size of the park never changes so we are limited what we can bring in as it impacts on everything else,” he explained.
