The Volvo EX30, available to order now in selected markets, is a cornerstone to where Volvo is heading as a car maker. It is their aim for half their global sales to be fully electric. Volvo future plans are to sell only fully electric models by 2030.
Expectations for the EX30 are very high and Volvo chiefs tell us that they think it will be one of their best-selling models in coming years. There is a growing demand from consumers for small, fully electric premium SUVs.
Many people living in cities are looking for a car that brings convenience and allows them to commute to work and get around, while also allowing for some planned longer journeys when required. The EX30 provides drivers with a true and capable SUV, born electric and packed with all of the smart tech that they need.
Combined with a starting price of €38,596 in Ireland (including SEAI Grant & VRT Relief), this means customers get a premium fully-electric SUV for a similar price to combustion engine-powered equivalents.
Meanwhile, in recent days, Volvo has also announced that they will no longer be selling saloons or estate cars in this part of the world. Instead, they are concentrating on producing more SUVs and all-electric cars from now on.
The last Volvo estate, the S60, V60 and V90, are being retired to leave the Swedish brand to focus on the electric evolution by models like the XC40 Recharge, the C40 Recharge and the new EX30.
Again, it is all to do with what customers want today and is hardly surprising. We a going to see more and more older models being consigned to the history books, just like other brands such as Ford, who recently killed off the Mondeo and the Fiesta.
“We continue to rapidly transform our product offer, which means not only moving towards full electrification, but also shifting to new platforms and technologies across all our cars,” a spokesman for the company said.
“We will naturally need to evolve and consolidate our line-up as we prioritise fully electric cars and make this technological transition.
“Demand for our existing SUV line-up continues to grow, while interest in our forthcoming fully electric EX30 and EX90 models is strong.”
