Hurdle joy for the Lee-trained 20/1 shot on day of local success at September meeting

Local horses left their mark on the opening day of the Galway September meeting at Ballybrit on Monday.
The Gort-based trainer, Norman Lee, saddled the longest-priced winner of the meeting when Oskar High bounced back to form on the rain-softened ground.
The 20/1 shot made every yard of the running to come home a decisive winner in Div. 1 of the Galway Handicap Hurdle under Shane O’Callaghan, a late call up for Robbie Geoghegan, who was unavoidably delayed.
Carrying the colours of the Aldergoole More Partnership, which includes Pat and Darragh Gleeson from Dunmore who were also involved with Aintree Grand National third Seabass in 2012, Oskar High was achieving a fifth career win and could now attempt a quick follow up at Ballinrobe this Friday.
“He’s a special little horse and we’ve been waiting all summer to run him. We couldn’t chance him on the quick ground.
“I fancied the life out of him today and thought he couldn’t get beaten. He’s right low in the handicap and is a very honest horse,” said Lee.
There were also local celebrations after the in-form Peter Fahey stable – four times on the mark at the summer festival – hit the target again with one of those winners.
