A total of ten community projects across Galway are celebrating a state windfall this week to help them provide a range of services from a community cinema to walkways and car parking.
They will receive grants of up to €50,000 in CLÁR funding from Galway’s €412,000 share, as part of Our Rural Future, the Government’s policy for rural development.
Grants of €50,000 each will go to Mountbellew/Moylough GAA Club for the provision of a walking/running track; Kilchreest NS for car parking to allow access to a community walking track and pitch area, and Clonberne Community Centre for increased and accessible use of existing community facilities.
Ahascragh/Fohenagh GAA Club will receive €49,500 to level its existing car park and other improvements; Gort GAA Club gets €45,000 to develop an 850m accessible perimeter walkway around its 20 acre site, and Comhairle Ceantar na nOileán Teo receives €41,827 for a community cinema and drop in youth hub facility at the Hall Pobail Tir an Fhia to include library, coffee dock and game area.
Claddaghduff Community Council receives €36,492 for enhancement works at Cleggan Community Centre; Ballinasloe RFC gets €32,400 for a walking track around the perimeter of their pitches; Clontuskert Community Development Group will receive €30,267 to upgrade the parking area, lighting, heating and seating, while Ionad Oideachas Pobail Glinnsce & Caiseal receives €27,000 for safe accessible parking facilities at the education centre.
