Michigan-born and Austin-based DJ Bill Converse is a name that may be familiar to students of Detroit techno and cult electronic music in midwestern America. It took a long time for his music to be widely received in a part of the States that has traditionally struggled to welcome alternative dance producers, but he is hugely respected by those that enjoy unorthodox sets laced with idiosyncratic sounds. It explains why he is often referred to as a favourite DJ of some of the most respected names in the American dance music scene.
This Saturday, May 6, Bill is set to play a free gig in Galway’s Bierhaus as part of a mini-European tour. It is a venue that has long been known for housing diverse and nonconformist electronic acts, and its atmosphere and ethos feel like the perfect match for Bill’s style. His upcoming live dates arrive six months on from his most recent LP, Take Parts, which was brought out by Dark Entries Records in October.
“It’s been good,” Bill says of the rection to the record.
“With Dark Entries, things take a while to pan out and to see how an album does. Initially, it wasn’t having as strong an impact as Meditations/Industry had. This one has taken a little longer to sink in. I’ve been hearing it more now than when it first came out… Just going off what I can gather off social media, it’s been good overall.
