Over €140,000 was raised at fundraising event for the Galway Hospice on Friday in memory of a man who devoted so much of his short life to raising money for a whole host of great causes.
Over 600 people gathered at the Galmont Hotel to attend the Friday Game where a line-up of special guests discussed the 2023 and 2024 inter county season.
The event was organised by the family and friends of David Cox, of Moycullen and Claddagh, who passed away in July 2022 following his battle with cancer. His final days were spent in Galway Hospice.
The panelists included Joe Canning, Anthony Daly and Michael Duignan who discussed the various county hurling teams’ prospects for 2024 and Peter Canavan, Brian Fenton and Cora Staunton who took a look at the football teams.
Galway football manager, Padraic Joyce, was a special guest speaker, as was incoming Uachtarán of An Cumann Luthchleas Gael, Jarlath Burns.
There were messages of support from various sports stars and celebrities including Galway hurling manager, Henry Shefflin, Connacht Rugby’s John Muldoon and Ireland’s Conor Murray.
