The early indications from Galway East are that sitting TD Sean Canney will top the poll in Galway East followed by Fine Gael’s Pete Roche from Abbeyknockmoy.
The boxes at the Presentation Convent in Headford were opened at 9am and tallying commenced immediately.
Canney and Roche are polling extremely well and, not surprisingly, they are the dominant force when it comes to the Tuam boxes.
Roche is also polling well in a number of the South Galway boxes, and it means that he may well take the second seat.
For Fianna Fail, Cllr Albert Dolan is doing well and is ahead of sitting Deputy Anne Rabbitte in some of the early boxes opened.
It is expected that she will be in a scramble for the fourth seat along with Portumna’s Niamh Madden of Fine Gael.
