The victim of an assault in Galway city last week is understood to be stable and making a good recovery at Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital.
Gardaí investigating the assault have confirmed to the Connacht Tribune that they are pursuing a definite line of inquiry into the incident.
The assault happened in the early hours of Thursday morning, July 20, after an altercation developed in the Dominick Street area of the city, close to Monroe’s pub.
Three males are understood to have been involved in the row which went for a number of minutes between 2.10am and 2.30am – the victim received a blow to the head before falling on the street.
Emergency services were called and the victim was rushed by ambulance to University Hospital Galway, suffering from serious head injuries.
Later that day, he was transferred to Beaumont Hospital where he underwent emergency treatment for head and brain injuries – this week, the victim is understood to be making a good recovery.
Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses to the incident – or anyone with car dash cam or camera footage – to make contract with them, either at Galway Garda Station, 091-538000, or the Confidential Line on 1800-666-111.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed to the Connacht Tribune that they were pursuing a definite line of inquiry in their investigation of the incident.
“We have identified two people of interest to us and we expect to be interviewing them over the coming days.
“This was a very serious incident in which a man suffered potentially life-threatening injuries,” said the Garda spokesperson.
The victim of the assault is understood to be a man in his late-30s from the Newcastle area of Galway city.
