What percentage of statements in PBP newsletter don’t add up?

Bradley Bytes – A sort of political column by Dara Bradley
People Before Profit Galway has upped its game and invested in publicising its people.
Homes in the City Central ward were targeted in March with leaflets or ‘Galway Newsletter’, containing information about the party’s policies and activities in the city.
It also introduced its 2024 local election candidates who are “fighting for workers and eco-socialism”, with pen pics of Maisie McMaster (City West), Adrian Curran (City Central) and Denman Rooke (City East).
Four essays give details about the party’s policy towards refugees (they’re welcome), housing (we need more), the cost of living crisis (it’s not welcome) and climate change (we need less of it).
Under the climate heading, PBP said that An Bórd Pleanála’s decision earlier this year to quash the Galway City Ring Road (or bypass as they called it) offered an opportunity to invest in active travel.
It then went on to criticise Galway City Council for allegedly not doing enough in this department.
“Unfortunately, our City Council only spent a third of its active travel budget this year,” the newsletter complained.
Presuming by ‘this year’ they mean 2023. These leaflets were dropped into homes in March 2023 – just a quarter of the way through the year – so if the Council has spent a third of its active travel budget, surely, PBP should be commending the local authority for being ahead of schedule on spending its budget?
Fair enough, criticise the local authority when it is at fault. But either PBP figures are wrong, its year is wrong, its data outdated, or the party is unfairly attacking the City Council.
