In the Beginning is the title of a new exhibition that’s opening in Kinvara Courthouse this Friday evening at 7.30pm. It’ s the work of Pam Fleming, the former chairperson of the local visual arts group Kava, and is accompanied by a collection of poetry by local authors.
Pam cites environmentalist and broadcaster David Attenborough as being the main inspiration behind the exhibition.
“Watching his very early tv shows, set in Madagascar, as a child instilled an appreciation of the animal kingdom in me and many others who watched spellbound,” she explains.
The title of her exhibition comes from the Bible’s famous opening lines, which gave humans dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air and over all the wild animals on the earth.
“The relationship we have in today’s world with the animal kingdom is, of course, one of major concern, with many species on the brink of extinction,” says Pam.
But this show ultimately deals with how we relate, on a day-to-day basis with the wildlife we draw close to in our lives, she adds.
