New photographic exhibition celebrating Old Galway New photographic exhibition celebrating Old Galway

More than 40 historic photographs of Galway city will feature in Tom Kenny’s Old Galway, a new exhibition at The Kenny Gallery in Galway City’s Liosbán Retail Park, that runs from this Saturday, August 12, until Tuesday, August 29.

Curated by local historian Tom Kenny, the images depict a social history of Galway city in the late 19th and 20th centuries. Photographs of various city streets including Quay Street and Cross Street, as well as market scenes, old shops and residences, workers, sporting activities and transport will feature

Tom has been a local historian in Galway for most of his life and 2023 marks the celebration of his 50th year writing weekly Old Galway columns on the city’s history for the Galway Advertiser. He also co-hosts a weekly Old Galway Diary podcast with Ronnie O’Gorman.

Mayor of Galway city, Cllr Eddie Hoare, will launch the exhibition at 3pm this Saturday, August 12, and all are welcome along.

Tom Kenny’s Old Galway, which is funded by Galway City Council, will run until August 29 at The Kenny Gallery, Monday to Saturday, 9am-5pm daily. The photos are not for sale. A selection of the images will be also available to view on www.thekennygallery.ie.
