Misfiring United rescued by late leveller

Not only are hopes of winning the title finally gone, there is a real danger that Galway United are waving goodbye to any hopes of winning promotion through the play-offs after another poor performance saw them needing an equaliser six minutes into injury time to snatch a draw away to the league’s basement side.

The visitors were completely on top in the opening 15 or 20 minutes, but an abject failure to put the ball in the net saw them fail to make that dominance count on the scoreboard, giving the home side a sense that it could be one of those nights in their favour.

Cobh grew more and more into the game, and while their goal was a complete fluke – different week, different goalkeeper, but another howler – they looked to have done enough to claim just a fourth win of the season, only for Mikey Rowe to smash home an unstoppable equaliser for United in the 51st minute of the second-half.

That is where United are, needing a late late goal to scramble a draw against a side that has won just three games all year. It has constantly been said this season said there is no such thing as an easy game, but you can certainly make games easier for yourself, and United have failed miserably at that in the last couple of months.
