Ronan Manning has credited the impact of both Ollie Horgan and Chris Collopy as being a major part of Galway United’s impressive start to the season, which has seen them win their opening seven games, setting one new club record, and matching another.
Manning, who has shone on the left side of an attacking quartet for United this season, says the input from both assistant manager, Horgan, and club coach, Collopy, especially in training, has laid some of the groundwork for United sweeping all in front of them so far.
Speaking after the win at home to Longford Town a fortnight ago, Horgan said he found training to be a more enjoyable experience than the actual games, and Manning also mentioned the high-octane training sessions which the players have been put through.
“They have made a massive difference,” Manning says of Horgan and Collopy.
“You know that saying, that you train how you play, they have brought that, and that is what we have been doing. Every day in training is 100 mile an hour and exactly how we have been playing in games, we are a high-pressing team, a high-energy team, that’s how we train, and we bring that into our game, it has been a big advantage bringing them two in,” he said.
United’s previous best start to the season was five wins on the bounce back in the 1985/86 season, which ended with a 2-2 draw away to Shamrock Rovers. That record start has already been surpassed this season; while the club’s best ever run was seven wins on the spin in both 2006 and last season.
