An Taibhdhearc will host three concerts over the festive season, featuring some of Galway’s finest performers. These kick off this Friday night, December 23, with Galway trio, the Raines, followed by Tom Barry next Thursday, December 29, and Pauline Scanlon on Friday, January 6.
Ruth Dillon, Juliana Erkkonen and Yvonne Tiernan of the Raines will celebrate the release of their latest single Leaves Shake, and perform songs from their growing back catalogue at 8pm this Friday, when they will also be joined by special guests. Tickets are €20, plus booking fee.
Singer-songwriter Tom Barry, who plays guitar and piano, will perform in the venue next Thursday, also at 8pm. Born in Dublin, raised in Tipperary and a longtime Galway resident, Tom began writing songs at a young age, with influences as varied as Leonard Cohen and Frank Sinatra. During Covid, he took workshops with John Spillane and this concert will feature material from his debut album, Lighthouse, It’s a collection of 10 original songs and one cover, Little Musgrave, which will be well-known to fans of Planxty and Christy Moore, but which Tom has given a whole new treatment. He will be joined by multi-instrumentalist Jon O’Connell, with special guest, singer-songwriter Sabrina Dinan. Tickets are €15, plus booking fee.
Kerry singer Pauline Scanlon, who now lives in Headford will play An Taibhdhearc on Friday, January 6, at 8pm, bringing the magic of Corca Dhuibhne to the venue for Nollaig na mBan.
Pauline’s most recent album, The Unquiet, is a representation, through traditional songs, of the life of her late mother Eileen Scanlon, and other women in Irish society.
Tickets for that concert are €25, plus booking fee.
Booking for all shows can be made at Eventbrite.ie.
