A landmark North Galway pub which has been closed for a number of years has come on the market again.
Tyrrell Auctioneers in Tuam have confirmed this week that the Derreen Inn public house, residence and retail outlet is up for sale.
The pub – formerly Daly’s and in later years bought and ran by the Masterson family – was sold about seven years ago.
It is located on the main N63 Galway-Roscommon road, about 3km east of Abbeyknockmoy village.
The most recent owner – well known businessman and local resident, Declan Ganley – had ambitious plans to revamp the premises under the new name of the Edmund Burke Pub & Restaurant.
However, the proposal was stalled after an objection was lodged by the National Roads Authority.
This week, Martin and Tom Tyrrell said that they were delighted to present what they describe as a ‘unique sale’ of a well-known bar, lounge and dancing area, coupled with a residential and commercial unit aspect.
The property, which also stands on four acres of land, has an ideal central location in the county – less than a 20-minute drive to Tuam and within a half-hour of Galway city.
“Although in need of some refurbishment and redecoration, The Derreen Inn as it stands, offers would-be purchasers and investors massive potential through a variety of options and possibilities,” the auctioneers state.
