From this week’s Galway City Tribune – An alert neighbour proved to be a real lifesaver this week for three people who were trapped upstairs after a fire broke out in the ground floor area of their house.
The fire – possibly caused by an electrical fault – broke out in the downstairs sitting room area of the house at Monivea Park around 6am on Thursday morning.
Intense smoke and flames prevented three people, who were asleep upstairs, from accessing the stairs but a quick-thinking neighbour came to the rescue.
He put a ladder up to one of the upstairs windows before breaking the glass and getting the three people – two men and a woman – to safety.
