Drivers in Connacht are the ones most concerned with the lack of EV charging points in their area – with well over half of them citing this as an issue.
As a consequence, Connacht ranks lowest of the regions regarding intent to purchase an EV or hybrid, with only 41% planning to purchase either as their next vehicle – well below the national average of 54%.
That’s according to Carzone, Ireland’s leading motoring marketplace, in its 2024 Motoring Report, which sheds light on how Connacht’s driving habits stack up to the rest of the country.
It found that Connacht had the highest proportion of respondents concerned about a lack of EV charging points in their area, with 59% citing this as an issue compared to the national average of 50%.
But Connacht drivers also seem to love a good deal, having the lowest average spend on their last vehicle purchase of only €15,817 compared to the national average of €18,251.
Interestingly, Connacht survey respondents also had the lowest vehicle running costs, spending an average of €212 per week compared to the national average of €220.
“The automotive sector is at a pivotal juncture of recovery, with our data showing a promising start to 2024 and a pathway back to pre-pandemic levels of success for a sector recently challenged by Brexit and stock shortages,” said Sinead McCann of Carzone.
“This motoring report encapsulates the changing preferences of Irish consumers and how the industry can adapt to these emerging trends and expectations,” she added.
