Connacht have an extra incentive to get then job done when they host provincial rivals Ulster in the Sportsground tonight, says Jack Carty – a win will mean they can enjoy an extra mince-pie on Christmas Day guilt-free!
With the game going ahead two days before Christmas, as opposed to the derby Christmas slot of a day or two after December 25, Connacht’s captain says it means the players can enjoy Christmas that little bit more – but especially if they are savouring the sweet taste of victory.
“It certainly does mean we can enjoy Christmas, hopefully we will get a big win and you can lo forward to the 24 25, other years you have been enjoying it at 70% or 80%, it will be nice to get a win and enjoy the couple of days with an extra mince pie,” he laughed during the pre-match press conference held earlier this week.
Carty will make just his seventh appearance of the season tonight, having missed the early stages with a hand injury, and more recent games with a foot injury, something which saw him travel to Cork for special treatment on.
“I had a PRP injection on my foot two weeks ago, I was just managing it for the last six or seven weeks, just got it done and had to take a two-week break.
“They took blood out of my arm and spin it, to separate the plasma I think, and then they reinject it back in to promote healing, effectively. I had it done in Cork, not the most pleasant, it was quiet sore, but I am hoping it will help,” said Carty, who is set to make his 186th appearance for the province.
