Studio Mór is a supported art studio in Oranmore village that operates alongside the Brothers of Charity Galway centre, Limelight Creative Arts. It provides a safe, accessible, inclusive space for people with additional needs who want to create art. People travel from all parts of Galway on Tuesdays to avail of the studio facilities.
The Centre is now offering three artists a week-long residency for this Autumn /Winter and inviting applications from people at any stage of development, including students or recent graduates in Galway. Those chosen will have access to the studio space for a one-week paid residency, from Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4pm, to create work of their own choosing. They will also be required to facilitate one taster demo workshop of their work. This is for adults who are being supported by the centre, living independent lives and with diverse interests and abilities. Applicants are encouraged to consider how they could facilitate this demo, supported by staff from the centre.
The three artists will be chosen by the people who use Studio Mór and Limelight Creative Arts. The residency is worth €850 and the workshop demo – which will be one-and-a-half hours at most – is worth €150.
Studio Mór’s facilities include access to textile screen-printing equipment and exposure unit. There’s a kiln and a darkroom, as well as Wi-Fi, tea and coffee facilities and access to a café and supermarket. Submissions are being sought from artists working across a range of media, as well as those using music, movement and more,
Artists should submit a short expression-of-interest letter, along with a CV, a plan for using the space and five images of recent work. A video outlining these details will also be accepted. All can be emailed to: 1studiomor@gmail.com. The deadline is Sunday, August 20, at 6pm. Phone 085 7228141 for information.
