The intimate setting of An Taibhdhearc provided one west coast singer/songwriter with the most memorable night of her last tour – so much so that she’s back this Friday to rekindle that special magic all over again.
Ennis singer/songwriter Síomha played a hugely memorable live show on her debut appearance there last July – and now that she more intimately acquainted with her surroundings, she’s looking forward to more of the same.
“It definitely was [special],” she notes. “I’d go so far as to say it was my favourite night of that tour – probably of the whole album release tour. I’d never played An Taibhdhearc before and in fact I’d never even been in it. I’d heard lots about it.
“There was something magical about the size of the venue and the crowd that showed up. People were really into it. I suppose they’d had a couple of months at that point to dive deep into the album and I guess they were coming to get that further immersive experience live and it definitely was a very special night… I think for what I’m doing, those seated theatre shows really do help with that immersive experience.”
An Taibhdhearc has long been recognised as a hugely important Irish-language theatre but – particularly in a climate that boasts fewer music spaces and plenty of demand for gigs – it has added another string to its bow.
Síomha’s debut album, Infinite Space, was widely celebrated as one of the finest Irish records last year – and she hopes her latest Galway appearance will repeat the vibe of her first.
