The city’s largest GAA club has organised a briefing to outline its wish list to local election candidates about investment in infrastructure and facilities.
Salthill Knocknacarra GAA Club invited six sitting councillors plus election hopefuls in Galway City West, to meet its executive next week where it will outline plans for its existing facilities at the Prairie and its planned new development at Mincloon.
Club Secretary David Burke, in an email said the club and GAA, “do not engage in party political activities” but “we will be fully engaging you on the important local political issue relating to the dire need for additional new facilities for our club”, and improvements to existing facilities.
Election hopefuls were told the Active Travel project was a “win-win proposal” that “can benefit the local community and local schools”, as well as the club. Salthill Knocknacarra said it would request financial support for the re-development of the Prairie. It said it wants full planning permission for floodlights at the Prairie; a full sized 4G GAA pitch at the Prairie costing more than €1m; and installation of solar panels at its clubhouse at Arus Bóthar na Trá.
The club said it would be requesting the installation of floodlights and/or a 4G surface at Coláiste na Coiribe land in Knocknacarra and at the Council’s GAA pitches in Cappagh.
