Salthill-Knocknacarra 1-12
Annaghdown 0-9
Pádraic Ó Ciardha at Pearse Stadium
IT hasn’t taken John O’Mahony long to work his magic. Having been appointed in the off-season after Salthill-Knocknacarra failed to get past the group stage of last year’s championship, Galway’s two-time All Ireland-winning manager has guided the club into the county final at the first attempt.
While the Seasiders are obviously too talented an outfit to be flirting with the relegation stages, O’Mahony has done more than simply right the ship. His presence has clearly had a galvanising effect on the panel and added a firmness that was not always present in recent years.
Last Sunday’s win over Annaghdown was much harder-fought than the final scoreline suggests but Salthill-Knocknacarra had players who stepped up when needed. Tomo Culhane shook off the close attention of the returning Eoghan Kerin to kick four vital points from play, Donie Hunt made a big impact from the bench, while a combination of William Finnerty, Gearóid Armstrong and Eoin McFadden managed to keep Annaghdonwn’s dangermen of Damien Comer and Frankie Burke to just two points from play.
