Meelick/Eyrecourt 1-17
Rahoon/Newcastle: 1-12
Eanna O’Reilly at Kenny Park
MEELICK/Eyrecourt qualified for the county intermediate final after a convincing five point victory over Rahoon/Newcastle in Kenny Park on Sunday. Damien Howe’s charges had too much quality for the city side on the day and put daylight between the teams during a very strong third quarter.
The east Galway side hit seven points without reply during an excellent 15 minute spell, which put them firmly in control of the contest. Rahoon/Newcastle had to chase a seven point lead late in the game against a side which really clicked during the second half.
A goal from Willie Mackey briefly gave them hope of a comeback, but Meelick/Eyrecourt replied with two injury time scores to seal their win. A meeting with their neighbours Killimor awaits Howe’s side, who will be looking to win their first intermediate title since 1997.
The only negative from the day for Meelick/Eyrecourt was the second half injury sustained by Niall Fleming, who suffered an accidental blow to the head while making a tackle. The match was stopped for 25 minutes while an ambulance was required to bring Fleming safely from the pitch.
