Druid’s Artistic Director, Garry Hynes has been nominated for a Best Director award by the UK Theatre Awards for her work on the company’s major production of Sean O’Casey’s three best-known plays, The Plough and The Stars, The Shadow of a Gunman and Juno and the Paycock.
The trilogy, titled DruidO’Casey premiered at Galway International Arts Festival in July before touring to Belfast’s Lyric Theatre and the Abbey Theatre in Dublin.
A sellout success, it was also critically acclaimed and received five-star reviews from The Observer, Financial Times, The Stage and Irish Mail on Sunday.
The UK Theatre Awards celebrate outstanding achievements in theatre across Great Britain and Northern Ireland and this nomination follows Druid’s run at the Lyric Theatre in August. The ceremony will take place in London in early October.
Next up, the company will bring the production to America, playing NYU Skirball in New York City (in partnership with the acclaimed Public Theater) and the Power Center for the Performing Arts in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
