Síomha has been a name on the Irish music circuit for some time, but it is only in recent months that her potential has been fully realised. Because the Ennis native has spent the last three years working with producer Tyler Duncan and long-time collaborator Martin Atkinson on Infinite Space – an eleven track, jazz-tinged LP that brims with ambition and imagination.
The record is as accomplished and coherent as a debut album could possibly hope to be, and it has received ubiquitous acclaim since its release on April 22.
That is, in part, down to the chemistry of the collaborations at work. If ever there was an album to argue for patience with its recording process, this is it.
Merging elements of jazz, folk, trad, pop and soul, as well as the Irish and English language, it sprawls seamlessly as only the most precise and intricate projects can. Infinite Space is accompanied by a series of Irish dates – one of which Síomha plays this Sunday in Galway’s An Taibhdhearc.
“There’s been a lot of love,” she notes. “[I was] in a bubble or a vacuum for three years, where it was basically just myself, Tyler Duncan my producer and my creative partner Martin Atkinson. It was just the three of us listening to this music as we were working on it and there was a time when it felt like that might always be the case.
