Galway Musical Society (GMS) enjoyed success on Saturday at the Association of Irish Musical Societies Festival Weekend (AIMS) in Killarney, when the annual award ceremony took place.
The group had three nominations in the event which was attended by more than 1,250 people from all over the country. Helena Brosnan of GMS was awarded Best Female Singer, beating off stiff competition to take the top prize. Her performance of Maureen in the Society’s production of Rent received rave reviews and a fantastic audience response.
Paul Norton was runner-up in the Best Director Category, making him one of the most-nominated individuals in AIMS history.
The final category of the evening was Best Overall Show. GMS won bronze for having produced the third best show in the country.
Gorey Musical Society’s production of West Side Story claimed first place with UCD Musical Society taking second.
Tuam’s Marian Choral Society also enjoyed success at the event, winning Best Chorus for its production of Sister Act.
GMS will return to the Galway stage next April with its next production, and hopes to return to AIMS in June 2024.
