They’re the songs we grew with; the one hit wonders, the guilty pleasures…the singles you’d long forgotten but as soon as you hear the opening guitar riff, you’re back in the eighties, at the disco, in your prime – and singing along like it’s what you did it for a living!
Those are the songs that Marc Roberts loves – either to sing in concert, or to play on the radio; just giving the listeners the feelgood factor, as he says. And fittingly the Feelgood Factor is the title of his stellar Leisureland show at the end of the month.
The man who finished second at Eurovision with Mysterious Woman back in 1997 – and we haven’t finished higher since – has music in his soul, be it recording, singing in concert or on Galway Bay FM.
And he is bringing all of that nostalgia to Leisureland on Friday, June 28, in the company of his old friends the Conquerors, his special guest Gina of the Champions – and the 50-strong Mervue Choir.
“Those who know the radio show will know the music – it’s a night of those big hits of the past…Neil Diamond, John Denver, Edison Lighthouse, Smokie, Tony Christie, David Soul; all the hits and the one hit wonders that we grew up on,” he says.
The mix went down such a treat when he did this for the first time in the Town Hall Theatre that he’s gone with a much bigger venue this time around. And Leisureland looks like it will be packed to the rafters.
