From this week’s Galway City Tribune – A man in his 20s came within minutes of losing his life in an assault and stabbing incident which occurred in the city last week.
The victim of the stabbing had gotten involved in a verbal altercation with up to five other men at Raven Terrace on the Thursday night/Good Friday morning.
After being knocked to the ground and kicked shortly before 1am, he was stabbed in the back twice before the emergency services were notified and the man was rushed by ambulance to University Hospital Galway.
The Galway City Tribune understands that he underwent emergency surgery for a severed artery shortly after being admitted to the Emergency Department – the operation saved his life.
Gardaí confirmed yesterday (Thursday) that one man from the western side of the city was arrested on Tuesday last in relation to the assault and stabbing and questioned at the Garda Regional HQ in Renmore.
A Garda spokesperson told the Galway City Tribune that they were pursuing a number of lines of inquiry into what they described as an extremely serious and life-threatening assault.
“We have identified a number of suspects that we want to interview, and we expect a number of arrests to be made over the coming days,” said the spokesperson.
