THE Galway City Ring Road (GCRR) project is still very much a live application, with Galway County Council officials currently preparing updated surveys and audits – including ecology and traffic issues – for submission to An Bord Pleanála by September of this year.
Galway County Council Senior Engineer, Seán Devaney, told Conamara Area councillors at their meeting in County Hall last week that ecology surveys and traffic audits in relation to the 2018 application were only valid for three years and had to be updated.
He said that this work was currently being undertaken and would be completed and submitted to the Planning Board by this September.
Mr. Devaney said that in the High Court appeal, the GCCR planning application hadn’t been rejected – it had been referred back to An Bord Pleanála.
Green Party councillor, Alastair McKinstry, asked what had materially changed since the High Court decision of January, 2023 on the Ring Road application.
Seán Devaney said that the Planning Board had approved the scheme but the High Court ruled that a mistake had been made and referred the matter back to Bord Pleanála.
