Gardaí have launched an investigation into ‘discrepancies and anomalies’ in the financial accounts of Galway FA.
It comes after the committee of the organisation discovered “several discrepancies and anomalies while closing off the end of year accounts” on July 8.
“These anomalies have since been reported to An Garda and the committee has engaged a registered auditing firm to audit the accounts,” a spokesperson for Galway FA told the Galway City Tribune.
The organisation, responsible for association football across Galway City and County, including the senior league, is a volunteer-led, non-profit organisation.
“It is very disappointing this incident has occurred and there are lessons to be learnt moving forward,” the spokesperson said.
He said the organisation’s committee had met since the issues were discovered and has introduced “new stringent measures to ensure anomalies such as this cannot happen again”.
