From this week’s Galway City Tribune – Galway 2020, the company set up to deliver on the city and county’s European Capital of Culture designation, spent almost €2m last year.
The company’s latest accounts confirm over one fifth of the outlay was on wages for staff employed by Galway 2020.
Income generated last year was almost entirely from the public purse. Total income was €1.98m with €1.3m coming from Government grants and more than €600,000 from local authority grants. Other income amounted to just short of €140,000.
Galway 2020 generated zero income from sponsorship in 2021, according to the recently-filed accounts.
It spent €1.98m last year. Some €700,000 of it was attributed to ‘support costs’ including wages, and the remaining €1.1m was for “charitable activities”. Wages amounted to €442,171 of the company’s total costs.
