Singer-songwriter and professional dancer Dora Gola, who is originally from Poland and now lives in the West of Ireland, will launch her debut album, Dance with Danger, with a show at Monroe’s Backstage this Saturday, September 27.

The evening will also feature Phoenix & Wolfe, a Brazilian-Irish duo whose music blends Irish folk and Brazilian rhythms in bilingual songs.

Following the release of her single Dark Sand, which is taken from the album, The Irish Times and Hot Press described Dora as one of the most exciting new acts to emerge from Ireland in recent years.

Breathing feminine power, Dark Sand views nature as a support system for improving and healing mental health.

Dora’s sound is an eclectic mix of dark electro-pop, interwoven with Slavic folktronica and lavish Eastern sounds, all driven by 1980s’ funk groove and a smattering of Irish trad.

She first began writing songs at 12 in Poland, while training to be a dancer. When she turned 15, her family moved to Ireland, after which she became fascinated by Irish trad and folk. It has become a major influence on her music.

As she consumed Irish mythology and folklore, Dora’s world broadened out, leading her to imbue her performances with a more pagan vision.

Now living in Lahinch, County Clare, her music seeks to rekindle the connection that has been lost between humans and nature, allowing listeners to rediscover the beauty of the earth.

Her music is a rediscovery of ancestral roots and mystical sensuality.

Dora’s Galway performance promises to be a blend of haunting vocals and mesmerising dance moves. With a striking stage presence and commanding voice, she weaves together vocal harmonies, synth riffs and infectious beats. Her dancing is also a highlight, in a performance that’s designed to awaken people’s senses.

Doors for this Saturday’s show at the city’s Dominick Street venue are at 9.30pm. It’s for over-18s and tickets at €19.80 are available at monroes.ie.
