United will be wary of perils posed in testing pair of weekend games

Any chance of complacency by Galway United heading into this weekend’s round of double fixtures away to Bray this evening (7.45pm) and at home to Finn Harps on Bank Holiday Monday (5pm) will be swiftly kicked to touch if they think back to just a month ago to their last double-date weekend.
A struggling 1-0 at home to Cobh Ramblers back on April 28 was followed by the only loss of the season three days later on the May Bank Holiday Monday in Longford, so United will need to be switched on from the first whistle in the Carlisle Grounds tonight if they are avoid a stumble that will throw a title lifeline to Waterford, who have the easier weekend with games against free-falling Treaty United, and basement side Kerry FC.
“This is not a cliché, every side is capable of beating one another on their day. You saw with Longford, who had been poor the previous week, they scored early and defended brilliantly to their credit and we couldn’t get a result up there, so on their day, every side is capable of turning another side over,.
“Going to Bray, I know Galway don’t have a great record up there and they have technical players that can do you damage, so we need to recover and get things right for that game,” Ollie Horgan said of the first of this weekend’s games.
There has been little between themselves and Bray in the Carlisle Grounds over the years, with United just shading matters with 15 wins to Bray’s 14, and they are unbeaten in their last six trips to the Carlisle Grounds, with four wins and two draws in that run.
Once they get over that test, thoughts will turn to the visit of Finn Harps on Monday night with United mindful of the difficulty they had in getting the better of the Donegal side on the opening night of the season up in Ballybofey back in February.
But look, they are just excuses to trot out if points are dropped: if United afford both sides the respect they deserve and then put the head down and put in the shift required, there really should be no other outcome than six points from six.
