Strings Attached are three unique concerts marking the 20th anniversary of ConTempo Quartet becoming the ensemble-in-residence with Galway Music Residency.
These special events will take place next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, July 18, 19 and 20, as part of Galway International Arts Festival and will feature a world premiere from Riverdance composer Bill Whelan.
The three concerts, which will be a celebration of jazz, classical and traditional music, can be enjoyed as stand-alone events or consecutively for a diverse musical journey.
Playing alongside ConTempo Quartet on separate evenings will be renowned pianist Finghin Collins; jazz wunderkind Matthew Berrill, and Irish traditional stars Séamus and Caoimhe Uí Fhlatharta.
The three concerts will be held in different city venues, with all starting at 6pm and lasting about an hour.
JazzTempo and the ConTempo Quartet will be at An Taibhdhearc on July 18, for an intimate concert. JazzTempo is all-star octet made up of Matthew Berrill, Róisín Mulliez, Aengus Hackett and Barry Donohue. This will be an evening of jazz classics and strings
The world premiere of Bill Whelan’s new piece will take place in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church on Wednesday, July 19. This will be performed by ConTempo and Séamus and Caoimhe Uí Fhlatharta. As well as this premiere, there will be tunes, airs and contemporary music, featuring Galway piper Pádraic Keane
Pianist Finghin Collins will join ConTempo on Thursday July 20 at, 6pm in the Emily Anderson Concert Hall at the University of Galway. Their programme will include the profound Piano Quintet by Johannes Brahms.
Each of these concerts will last about an hour and tickets are €16 each or €40 for all three. They’re available online from Galway International Arts Festival at GIAF.ie.
