Salthill Garda Station will continue to have a 24-hour members’ presence, Cllr Donal Lyons was told at last week’s City Joint Policing Committee (JPC) meeting.
Cllr Lyons said that there had been concerns arising from a previous JPC meeting that the Salthill Station could be closed on a daily basis from 9pm to 7am, but this had not happened.
“I just want to clarify that it is still the intention of Garda management to keep this station manned on a 24-hour basis,” said Cllr Lyons.
He said that following the October JPC meeting, he had been assured that the 24-hour facility would remain in place until April of this year.
“I want to know if this set up will be maintained after next April,” said Cllr Lyons.
Chief Superintendent Gerard Roche said that he had listened to concerns raised at a previous meeting, adding that the situation was being kept under constant review.
“We are going to keep going the way we are with a 24-hour presence,” said the Chief Supt.
