Kilconly rise from the dead to overhaul Oileáin Árann rivals

Kilconly 0-10

Oileáin Árann 0-9

Mike Rafferty at Pearse Stadium

FROM the moment Niall Daly caught the throw in at the start of the second half, Kilconly were on a front footing and for the next half hour they never took their foot off the throttle in advancing to an Intermediate football championship final meeting with Dunmore MacHales.

Now if ever a game was a tale of two halves this was the perfect example. At Pearse Stadium on Saturday, Oileáin Árann looked imperious in a wind assisted opening half as they totally dominated and pinned the North Galway side back. However at the end of 30 minutes they led by just six points when a more worthy advantage would have been double that.

Seven wides gave them just a lowly fifty per cent conversion rate, but such was their dominance one could only feel that more of the same was to come. It was so easy in that half and the opposition were so poor, maybe a touch of over confidence crept in.

For Kilconly matters could only get better. No doubt their dressing room had a high tempeture at half time and the players were listening as the message got through. There was only one way to go and that was up. To be fair to them, they did so in a decisive manner, as they controlled proceedings in the same way as the opposition did in the first half.
