From the Galway City Tribune – Gardaí have appealed for information into a double-stabbing incident that occurred in the Newcastle area.
Two men in their early 20s were taken to University Hospital Galway for what were understood to be non-life-threatening injuries.
One of the men suffered a stab wound to the abdomen while the second was treated for a laceration to his arm in the incident which involved a total of four men – all in their early 20s. Both injured people were released from hospital later that day.
The Galway City Tribune understands that the incident may have been related to a drugs feud between the two groups – who knew each other – which flared up at outside a shop in Newcastle at around 1am on the Monday morning of July 18 last.
Two of the men involved in the incident had been brought by taxi from the Westside to the shop in Newcastle shortly before that – the row erupted close to the shop entrance and involved two other people who were also in the shop at the time.
It is understood that Gardaí have identified all four of the people involved in the fracas and have launched a major investigation into what they describe as ‘a serious incident’.
Neither party involved in the dispute has made an official complaint to Gardaí on the incident who are understood to have closely examined CCTV footage available from the shop in question.
“We have launched a major investigation into an incident where two people received serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
“Gardaí take a very serious view of any violent assaults or stabbing incidents and we are appealing to the public to come forward with any information they may have in relation to what happened late on the Sunday night of July 17 last and into the early hours of Monday morning, July 18,” said the Garda spokesperson.
