Electronic speed sign out of action on city outskirts for full year due to possible stolen battery

An electronic speed sign on the outskirts of the city has been out of action for a full year – possibly due to a stolen battery.

At a meeting at City Hall, Councillor Shane Forde questioned the sign, between Ballindooley Cross and Castlegar.

Speaking in response, council staff were unable to say when exactly it will be fixed.

But they did reveal the signs are battery powered – and certain locations are targeted by thieves because those batteries are extremely valuable.

Fine Gael Councillor Forde says whatever the reason, it’s unacceptable for something so important to be left like this for so long.
